The Future of Food Project
What if you could redesign a plant or animal to help farmers overcome real challenges? Over the next four weeks, you will investigate local food systems and use science to create innovative solutions—culminating in an in-class showcase!

Project Schedule:
Day 1: Investigating Local Food Challenges
Students connect past and present by revisiting the Dust Bowl and exploring what grows locally today. Through a hands-on showcase featuring local farms and food producers, they investigate real challenges facing agriculture in our region.
Day 2: Diving into Case Studies & Project Selection
Students learn how humans shape living things through selective breeding and genetic modification. They analyze real-world examples and begin designing their own solution to a local farming challenge, developing a step-by-step algorithm to explain their thinking.
Day 3: Build and Advertise
Students continue developing their solutions, creating clear algorithms and visual materials to communicate their ideas. They refine their designs through feedback and prepare to present to an authentic audience.
Day 4: In-Class Showcase
Students showcase their work for all class blocks, reading and reviewing flyers and providing thoughtful feedback. We will not have a large, community-wide showcase this time around.
